The iDOLM@STER Anime Ep: 10 discussion
senorbobbers:
I'm a big time idolmaster fan: I love watching videos on youtube since my limits only extend to there, but it really saddens me how the anime is getting worse and worse with each episode.
First off, olympic games with idols... Why? Maybe that ones a culture thing, but its weird and seems rather... irrelevant. Second, this show has been so damn corny ever since the first episode. Not like the "ah youre so lame youre funny" type of corny, but the groan worthy type. Azusa is doing the race, and she comes in last. An interviewer asks her what she thinks, and she replies "it would have been better with milk" AH HA. GET IT, HE WAS ASKING ABOUT THE RACE BUT SHE THOUGHT HE MEANT THE BREAD. Ah....
Then you've got these 3 new girls trying to act like their "pro" and hating on the 765 girls, who I cant get behind at all because I keep thinking their line of thought is something like, "Man seeing those n00bs be posers pisses me off, their unlike us who can do ridiculously irrelevant and embarassing olympic events like a TRUE idol!" I also like how they call them a "puny" company when their the only team shown to have more than 3 people.
I loved how the "sub-plot" here with the 3 new girls's producer saying how "its already decided we'll win" was trying to sound foreboding, but goes nowhere, serving to be nothing more than a cheap commercial cliffhanger. The producer tries to persuade 765's producer to try and let them win, but he just gets told off by Iori before any would have even happened. They made it sound like the contest was rigged or something; I didnt think he was just going to go up to the 765 producer and just ASK if he could let them win. So in the span of 4 minutes, we have a foreboding sub-plot hinting that this group is going to win through any means necessary get put down in an instant without having done anything but be really stupid? How pointless.
Jupiter shows up for 30 seconds. You barely even get to hear their song. They've had no point other than to show that they actually exist, which we already knew. The DS girls cameo was relatively pointless as well.
The whole "disheartened" yayoi thing was hilarious, I don't know how they thought they were being emotional there. So yayoi gets told off that shes a n00b and that she'll bring her team down because she lost, (which was the other girls fault in the first place) which somehow affects her coming from someone she hasn't even met before. Though when the time comes for her to inevitably redeem herself and build up the courage to push on, she.... doesn't? I mean, this show's been so corn-ballish and cliche up til now that I was just expecting that part, but by not meeting expectations, well... I guess I can call that original. Call me mean-spirited and what not as I likely am, but expecting her to muster up courage and pick up speed, only to actually fall behind and just start bawling was just surprisingly humorous. And in the end, hand the trophy to yayoi of course, for no apparent reason.
The whole olympics event thing was a jumbled mess with no clarification. Do the other companies have as many girls as 765? Why were the DS girls not in the relay race? Why did they not animate the god damn part where they were breaking balloons with their butts but instead animate the girls using tricycles as scooters? (sigh)
Honestly, with the game as its basis, I knew what to expect from this series, what with the nature of current "popular" anime shows, it only makes sense that this was made into an anime. Im not saying I hate these moe, plot-less etc. type shows, its just that I was expecting a bit too much I suppose. I can't see anyone other than idolmaster fans watching this.
JohnNiles:
I presume the point of an idol competition is not to determine who is best, but for people to gawk at pretty girls crying, coming in last, falling down, etc. Like the cooking show with the butt shots. It's moe? I recall hearing about a show with models/idols as contestants doing humiliating stunts like seeing who can sit in a tub of very hot water the longest- the winner earned commercial time for her agency.
I'm watching the official streams so I'm 3 weeks behind on episodes, but I'm okay with the episode as described. I'm not at all surprised by how Yayoi performed; for someone not used to athletic competition, the pain and discomfort of running can easily make one quit. I would be more shocked and annoyed by a miracle performance, which is indeed the cheap and unrealistic outcome that most shows go for.
Nope:

It was pretty clear that their company had more than just 3, though. We see other girls with their shirt color compete and help them in the relay race. It's just that, like how the 765 girls were competing to get commercial time for Ryuugu Komachi, with Ryuugu Komachi's name mentioned up front during the actual competition, Shinkan Shojo was their main "unit" competing for screentime.

I think that this is going to come back to bite 765 Pro in the ass; mainly because it seemed to me that Kuroi stopped to look at the contest and at Shinkan Shoujo's producer. They haven't introduced the Idol Academy contest in the anime, but I think it's kinda clear that something "bad" is going to happen to Ryuugu Komachi next week and that Kuroi will be the cause of it so I'm thinking the commercial time they won for Ryuugu Komachi won't go as expected. We will see.

Well...It does exist. It's simply a more "unusual" way to have the Idols on air.

I actually thought it was cute...But maybe it's only because it was Azusa xD

Kind of have to agree with you on this one. If we don't get to see more about it in the future episodes, then it would have really been pointless.

Yeah but, we will definately get to see them again ._.
I really hope we'll see them interacting with the 765 idols!

I actually loved this scene, I really did. Why? Because it was realistic! You can't achieve things you couldn't usually do just by pressure/positive thoughts. She tried, but she couldn't do it, and it's alright. Those kind of things happens.

I thought so too, but one of my friend who doesn't know anything about the games and such started to watch the anime and she's actually loving it! Takane seduced her XP
So many people are disappointed by the anime...It is not my case, but maybe it's because I was never into actions animes, so it's no big change for me ._.

It exists.
--- Quote from: Wikipedia ---The girls attend "The Big Talent Agency Sports Competition" where idols groups from various agencies compete in games.
--- End quote ---
So it's no wonder why 876Pro and 961Pro would be in there, however you might be thinking "How come there's girls in sports competition and not boys?"
The anime never specify if it's female idols, male idols or both. Just idols. (Who cares? Does NBGI have to be 'this' specific about every detail in the anime?)
You might also be thinking "They're just making a big excuse to put everyone in one episode to please us all."
True. But, hey, if it really bugs you that much. You can also choose to not watch it at all.
And for people who dislike Jupiter might be thinking, "Why is Jupiter in here?! Are they trying to please the fanbase again?!"
For fans who support Jupiter, yes. But that's not the point, 961Pro is also a talent agency, so Jupiter being in the anime as a 'special guest' is at least acceptable.
