I know PSP games don't piggyback, I'm not sure about PS3 games though. A friend of mine claims they do.

I wonder if this game will use the asian controls (like in SP, circle for accept, x for cancel) or the american style controls (x for accept, circle for cancel).
Every iM@S game uses Asian layout, it doesn't make sense it they didn't.
Remember that circle equals correct and x equalling incorrect.
Changing x to accept would also be counterintuitive; x is currently used for skipping text, the other 3 buttons are for making choices during commus. Choices are put in a triangular layout corresponding with the upper three buttons, by changing the accept button the button associated with the most right choice would in turn become X.

I also wonder if it will make use of control elements like the sixaxis controls, L3, R3, etc.
I'm hoping the asian version comes with an english control sheet like SP.
When the demo comes out, can someone please map the basic controls?
There's no real usage for extra buttons nor for six-axis quirks in this game imo and I doubt the overall layout would be different from the 360 version.

I'm pretty sure the game will piggyback on whatever region your console is from.
While this is possible, most games hardcode the confirm button because basing it on the system is silly.

Unfortunately, the PS3 is nortorious for doing some weird, weird system quirks.

If you want confusing, consider this - In a lot of PS3 Japanese imports I play, Circle is confirm and X is cancel... Until I get to the save screen.

It will then reverse JUST for the save. It catches you out a lot, if you're used to doing things on automatic (and it gets really confusing when the reverse happens on your PSP)

As well, it's also been known that some games will softcode cancel - Project Diva: Dreamy Theatre 1 (for some weird reason) reverses the cancel/OK buttons depending on what region you're on.

So yes, hopefully they're smart enough to realise to hard code it (for layout reasons) although if you wanted a 'anti importing measure' that's a half decent way to screw with the importers...

I'm not sure why a company wouldn't want people to import, all it is is more sales.

Meh, I'm already happy Bumco decided to stick with the 360 layout and not the horrible pseudo color-coded one used in SP, based on the colors of a Sony layout controller.

I'm not sure why a company wouldn't want people to import, all it is is more sales.

Well, there's a variety of reasons why imports can be discouraged. It's a long list but I'll sum it up quickly. Some may only apply to certain regions, since they rely on cost effectiveness:

- Smaller company is actively trying to agressively vet for outside markets via a third party licence, or via its subsiduary. Since the companies are structurally seperate, NBGI US may demand (because any sales that are made via importing don't show up on the US side of the sheet) this. It's happened before, particularly if payments are exchanged between the parties.

- Extension to the first point - They don't want cross importing (say from the US to Australia) due to the price parity (For an idea, games in Australia cost about 90 US. Think about that for a moment.) if they intend to release. Needless to say, more money related stuff.

- Sony may demand this, as part of a broader marketing strategy. (This happened, particularly with the PS2). The cross importing is a particularly sore point (and that cost them a LOT of court cases, particularly in Australia.) where they said that they should have the right to declare any import of their PS line illegal, and get Customs to step in. It didn't fly in Australia, fortunately.

- It may not fit NBGI's strategy - they may not feel that im@s isn't suited to any market outside Japan and/or Asia. They indicated this in the past. (Mostly people not looking past the little girl and the idol industry thing) They're warming up a little, but not much.

- And of course, last and not least- Japan just hate our guts and- okay, I'm kidding. Well, sort of.

So there you have it, an incomplete set of reasons why you'd attempt to stymie imports - Granted this isn't going to make much sense until you realise we're talking businesses and money. It's a quirky 'Executive level' decision, and can have as much to do about the individual's position, as opposed to the company group decision.

While we're on the subject of digging, I've been hearing those "Think before you dig" radio commercials lately- about the underground wires and pipes you could hit if you start digging randomly.  Even more alarming, holes dug in sand can collapse and smother you if you manage to dig deep enough.  That hole Yukiho dug in episode 6 looks like it qualifies.

All this scary talk about imports and DLC is making my head spin.  I'll probably wait and let everyone else go first. ;_;  With my luck, I'll probably mistime it so that it arrives while I'm away for the holidays.

Unfortunately I don't have paypal money or a credit card to pay for the game right now. So I can either try to bribe a friend to buy it for me and I'll let him come over and play, or I can wait a month or two for it to pop up on amazon so I can use gift cards.

Well yes, and Sony is crazy about anti-piracy, protection, and etc. Irony, eh?
Also I believe it has something to do with the CERO ratings.
Especially in Europe where the rating board is extremely strict. (French people can certainly relate, right?) Several games had to be severely altered to get their European debut. (Heavy Rain for example)
I don't think they want people to import games without the proper ratings according to their region.

I laughed when I saw that Gravure 4 you is rated CERO C (rating of the original idolm@ster) while idolm@ster 2 is only rated CERO B.
I wish they also rated games on their kanji content. (That way people wouldn't see CERO A and think "oh this game is for children.")
This would really help!!
