Namco, please...Don't burst my bubble.
I guess it COULD be too beautiful to be true, after all. But wouldn't they make more money by not putting the region lock, anyway? If it's an attempt to recover the "failure" they had with the Xbox one then I don't see the point...But I'm probably missing something.

Sometimes the company just doesn't seem to care about making more money. Watch this.

M'yeah, I agree...
But since the fact that Idolm@ster wouldn't ever get translated (Which is pretty understandable, I gotta say) or even released in America was already clear to us, they could at least make it region free. But hey, it's not like I'm in any Namco producter's head after all...But do Japan hate us THAT much? ;A; (Yes)
While being a fangirl of Touma, MissDeidara really enjoys beating this latter in Fes.

Like I said, chances are it'll be region free. And you can find out for sure two months in advance when Xillia's released whether Idolm@ster will be region locked or not.

> Before release, people hope for a PS3 release
> Get PS3 release, everyone complains.

I do understand the massive ffffffffffffffffffffffffff especially for people who imported overpriced 360's/have spent buttfucktons on DLC.

Reading about PS3 region locking has just turned me away from the console. I was like "Oh sweet, so when I can get a PS3 I can get it" and spent this morning talking to my roommate about how beneficial it would be to get a PS3 first because of lack of region locking, then I find out Sony has gone "lol, nope" and fucked that up too.

I'm really annoyed at Sony and just really hope it isn't region locked.

It won't be region locked. It's been about 7 or 8 months and PS3 games still aren't region locked.

Really.

The 3.5 update merely gave developers the option of region locking. This is not the same as Xbox 360's case in which the region lock is also a hardware issue.

I don't see why Namco would go out of their way to region lock the game. It's a hardware issue, correct? Which means it would take extra time/money to actually lock the game. No games have had before and neither have the tales of games, so I doubt they would care.

However, I understand MS's little upset has to do with the eventual release date of the game, although they can't do anything about it. (Yes, the date is VERY, VERY specific. In fact, it's the earliest they can do so contractually). Apparently they're sort of doing some interesting dancing around in regards to the date.

I knew the timing was suspicious - nary a year after release, and two months removed from Christmas. I was almost afraid they may've actually broken the contract and soaked up the consequences because things were that bad and it was worth it. Glad to know that's (very nearly) not the case, but people still got their sad faces on, it seems.

Bumco'd better add at least 2 of these

Add to the wish list: Meeting your rivals after an audition does not make the reporter you were gunning for go away.

I'm pretty sure it'd be just a couple of KB at the start/end of the disc, and that's it, but I don't know technical details. Just a guess.

I wouldn't worry about region lock, especially since the PSP version of the game wasn't region locked.  Even though there are movies and maybe one game with region lock on the PSP, they didn't slap it on SP.  I can't even think of a PS3 game that has region lock on it, and Bamco loves money so I have no idea why they would slap it on there randomly.  They're not going to add region lock to this game in the slightest, end of conversation.

I've been asking about it - Apparently we're talking 24 hours expiry.

I was thinking it was initially a month (There's a 7 month difference) but then I was told about the fact it wasn't quite six months. Some other contractural arrangements adds it up to seven, not six.

For most part, in gaming industry terms, the last week of October is considered a 'dead zone' since the first and second weeks of November are when you want to do the Christmas rampup. In Japan, it's fairly similar release date wise.

Hitting the last week of October for something a) established and b) popular enough to deserve its own attention and capitalise on reports (And im@s 2 is both) is usually a sign they're releasing for a completely DIFFERENT reason.

So I stepped on a few people while I asked some pointed questions. Some of the answers I got back weren't that pleasant. I can't really substantiate all of it though - Some of it is speculation on THEIR half too.

I do need to sit down with you at some point and do some walking through stuff. I've been so swamped I've forgotten what I need to do for my tests...
