Urgent! Help Needed! (Japanese Power Plugs)
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:23:50 am »
Hopefully my Japanese 360 will be here in a week or so - and I was wondering - those of you Im@s fans who imported the xbox 360 to North America - U.S. or Canada (I live in Canada) how did you plug it in? Did you have to buy some extra device to plug in the xbox, or does it work just fine in the socket regularly? Sorry but I do urgently need your help so I can get things up and running once the console gets here! D: I'm not really good at any of this stuff - so I will definitely appreciate all the help you can give x.x

Well, when me and my pals were talking about it, they didn't say anything about special plugs, so you should be okay.

Why is everyone getting JP 360s instead of me... *Totally jealous*

Read Cael K.'s faq please.

The short version'd be: If you live in the US you wouldn't need a step-down converter or anything else at all if you got a JP 360, since both countries use similar sockets and voltage. You would need one if you got an Asian one.

Thanks for the faq! I read it but I'd like to make sure and discuss with someone who knows this before assuming I know what to do. Checked one of the wiki links and under Canada it has listed the following info:

type of plug/socket: A, B
voltage: 120V
frequency: 60Hz

The info for a Japanese 360:
Microsoft XBox360, Japan
Voltage/Frequency: 100-127V @ 47-63Hz.
Typical/Maximum Power Draw: 135-210W / 135-254W, depending on production run
Plug: Type A.

So from the look of it.... I should be fine without buying a converter then? Is this correct?

From Wikipedia: Type A plugs are also compatible with Type B sockets, in which case the socket enforces polarity by means of a wide and a narrow slot.

Also according to Wikipedia, Canada gives your XBox360 120V of power (within 100-127V) at 60 Hz (within 47-63Hz). So, it looks like you're good.

... You know, it'd be strange if my stuff didn't work as soon as I crossed a border.
