Buying iM@S on Xbox Live on an english console?
« on: June 19, 2011, 02:15:59 pm »
I know about the whole deal about Japanese games being region-locked and all. But my friend said she was able to get a Japanese xbox live account on her xbox360 and said she was going to try and buy the iM@S games with her points. I was going to get an xBox360 myself if she could play them. But I was wondering if you could still play the games even though they're on a non-Japanese Xbox360? Or would it be a waste of points to buy it?

And would this count for all the DLC & iM@S & iM@S L4U as well?

Sorry if I put this in the wrong forum. ^^; But I would appreciate some help here. Thanks in advance!

It will be a waste of points (actually, you can't purchase it at all).

If I recall, not only is Games on Demand still region locked, but it's IP locked.  You won't be able to purchase it unless you're connecting from a Japanese IP address, and you won't play it unless you have a Japanese/Asian console.

Aw really? I was afraid of that. That really sucks. I'll take your word for it then. Thanks! :)

(Why oh WHY can't iM@S be playable on the PC? *sobs*)

I'll have to save for a Japanese Xbox360 then. Sigh.

It seems everyone hates the PC gaming industry ( ゚^゚)

Saving for a Japanese Xbox 360 will definitely be worthwhile though, seeing as the majority of Xbox 360 games released in the states aren't region locked, so you can play both Japanese and (most) American games perfectly fine.

I didn't even ask my friend if she has an english or Japanese xBox. I should ask the next time she's online.

And I can imagine. There haven't been a lot of PC games I'd want to play other than Sims.

...And minecraft. >_>

So if I got a Japanese XBox360 I could play english games on it? Awesome! :D
Truthfully, the only reason I want to get an xBox at all is really for the iDOLM@STER games. I know a lot of people would say that's a waste of money but I've been wanting to play these games FOREVER. I've gotten the SP game Missing Moon and LOVE IT.  ^^

Even though the PC industry is where the developers can have their game as they intended it.
Although a PC idolm@ster would never happen.

Almost every american game will work on a Japanese xbox 360, but everytime I play one it redrings for some reason. Every time!

I find it weird that you can play English games on a Japanese Xbox360 but not the other way around. Do they not want us to experience the awesomeness of the Japanese games?

It's just so weird. :/

As far as I can see the Japanese are the only ones who actually care about region locking. Region locking is optional on the 360 if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if that applies to Nintendo products or if it's auto-locked.

Written on Twitter, but whatever.

@SereneMidnight: Cave released Deathsmiles IIX for 360's Games on Demand service without translating it. Why can't Namco Bandai do the same thing for iM@S?

And...

@SereneMidnight: It'll be a lot cheaper to just make the game region free and release it in the US market.

A danmaku's pretty playable in an unknown foreign language, iM@S'd make one go taking a peek at a FAQ every couple of minutes or so :|

It'll be a lot cheaper to to not release a game in the US market at all if the prospects on the sale'd be mediocre to awful.

I heard that it actually costs more to develop a Japanese game that's not region locked.  You have to apply for an all-region license with Microsoft or so.  Not too sure about that one, but it makes sense if so.
