What I don't get is why they don't just tell the other idols that Ryo's a dude. I get not telling the public, but the idols are gonna catch on sooner or later.

The main reason why Ryo shouldn't reveal his gender to his fellow colleagues:
1. Honor
2. Because it's so much more interesting for the plot

Somehow it reminds me of Mako-chan from Minami-ke. Haruka could catch him numerous times but didn't figure it out, after all.
