I am about to receive my Japanese Xbox 360 in a few hours. (Play asia makes it look like days, though.) Before I get it, I would like to know where the rest of Project-imas got theirs, and personal experiences and advice. Concerns include small details like power supply(differences from countries?), A/V differences, How to deal with RROD(If it happens-- hopefully it won't), things like that.

I also happened to buy the cheapest one, which is the newest(slim?) J360 with 4gigs. Unfortunately for me I was kind of-- how do I say this.. buying on impulse? I also live in America if that matters.

Oh, aquestion. A close friend of mine is debating about buying a J360 or not. He's particularly frightened about the whole "customs & VAT" part of the deal. What should I tell him? Because in all honestly; I have no idea either.

well, let's see I got mine for $150 (plus 8 games and a 20gb harddrive) from some guy locally.
I was super happy I got such a good deal.

Power supply and AV are the same as America by the way. US hardware is completely compatible (controllers and such). A lot of US games work. (If you have a Gamestop in your area, you can buy a used game and return it within a week for a full refund if it doesn't work)  The only thing that sucks is I literally have the first version to come out in Japan. So no wireless controller and no wifi (not that i need it).

Oh mine redringed twice actually. The first time was just an overheat and after a while it was back to normal but the second time it stayed red. I got it fixed from some guy locally and since I hadn't put that much money into it I didn't really care.

I can answer this! You can look at my sig, or I could just tell you the short version: Japanese XBox360's will work on American power. ^^

EDIT: Although, if you want to make sure, you can look at the power supply that comes with the console. If its input (not output) gives you a range that includes 120V at 60Hz, then you're good.

Personally, though... if you Red Ring, and you got yours from Japan, I think you're pretty much hosed. If you know someone locally that can fix it, that's probably your best bet.

I was going to say, you can look at Cael's guide of buying things from Japan.  It's really useful and talks about J360s as well, but he kinda beat me to the punch. XD

I guess on a personal level, I got my J360 back in December from play-asia: The slim 250GB 360.  It's been really good, I rarely switch it out for my NA 360 unless I'm playing something that for some reason doesn't work (The copy of RE5 I have doesn't work, but I think it's a "defective" copy that just works on my 360 because it just uses the CD to boot the game that's on the hard drive).  Play-asia has a compatibility guide with the games, and it's worth a check out before you go buy a game or something.

For the customs, at least I know I had to pay some sort of fee I hope I don't have to for im@s 2 >: when they delivered it to my door (at least my dad did), so it might depend on the country and the customs office.

Edit: ahh yes, tweeny had this problem before even getting her 360.  So, hope that customs don't delay your getting???

Eep. I just thought about Customs slapping me a bill too! I've heard UPS(Company that I used) doesn't give you the item until after you pay for the customs bill! Uh oh. Any idea on how much it would be?
