Title: Things you want in a future installment
Post by: ninjamitsuki on April 01, 2013, 07:30:29 AM
Judging by the way DLC has been handled lately, it might be that iDOLM@STER 2 is nearing its end and a new installment is on its way...

So which features do you want to see appear/make a comeback?

Here's mine:

1: The return of picking which idol sings which line like in Live For You
2: Azusa to grow her hair back
3: The ability to let each idol wear a different costume/accessories.
4: The option to be a female producer.
5: The return of free produce mode/sandbox mode
6: More idols!
7: Quartets.
8: Better lip sync
9: A green screen stage!
10: More ways for idols to interact with each other. For instance, if you put Iori and Miki in the same unit they will bicker and you can do communications with multiple idols at once to boost affinities. I basically want much more focus on the communication between the idols.
11: All the idols have different shoes in the main three outfits! The fact that they always have the same shoes bothers me for some reason.
12: Remasters of the arcade songs, re-recorded and remastered instruments.
13: Marketing and complete control over promotions (see page 3 for detailed description), which could include integration of g4u into the main game.
14: PV creation tool/dance edit mode.
15: Hopefully no region locking.

The fun part is that there are people who will agree with me when I say Xbox 360 and region locking.  Oh right and none of the numerous cases of bullshit iM@S 2 had.

3: The ability to let each idol wear a different costume/accessories.
This is what I was waiting for in iM@S 2.  It's something so simple, yet we still don't have it.
Oh right and none of the numerous cases of bullshit iM@S 2 had.
That was really funny looking back on it.  Hopefully Namco doesn't screw up big time like that again.

1. Better stories since most of the routes in im@s 2 were pretty weak. (With Yukiho's and Mami's being an exception)
2. None of those stupid forced loss events.
3. More Idols perhaps
4. An option for a 5 idol unit.
5. Less repetitive gameplay

2. None of those stupid forced loss events.

This.
Most annoying part of 2. Especially when I was destroying them until the force loss.

I liked 1's gameplay better so something more like that please.
The fun part is that there are people who will agree with me when I say Xbox 360 and region locking.  Oh right and none of the numerous cases of bullshit iM@S 2 had.

As long as we don't have these bullshit loyalty issues, why not.

1. The "Picking who sings what line" thing from L4U
2. The ability to choose the number of idols for your story unit (From Solo-Quintet)
3. More idol interactions in the story; Maybe limited to two idols interacting at a time, with all members of a unit less full-on interacting and more chiming in during Story things. (Just a thought; since I can't play the games, it doesn't bother me as much)
4. Different voice tracks for Mami and Ami; maybe have one as slightly deeper than the other, or different pronunciations, or...?
5. More rivals. Jupiter's cool, as are 876, but the latter is DLC-only, and you only face Jupiter in story missions; otherwise, you face 765 idols only, which I find odd.
6. More "Default" costume types to recolor: maybe a spiritual successor to Punkish Gothic that shares colors across idols? Or... Well, I can't think of much else, but I'm probably just not thinking too hard.
7. More songs that come with the game; the arcade songs should have been in 2, as well as all of the 360 songs. (I mean, why add Go My Way!, relations, and My Best Friend, but not Massugu, Omoide wa Arigatou, and Watashi wa Idol?)
8. Yumeko and Cineria to be ACTUALLY SEEN in 3D MODELS with ACTUAL SONGS. I mean, Cineria's even in the Top 100 (maybe even Top 50...?) in 2!

9(?). A prequel game with Kotori and Mai, as well as one other character. (Not Reiko, as riola is kinda already canon, but they should be a rival.) Maybe one of the older CGirls, like Takahashi Reiko or Kawashima Mizuki. At the very least, I wanna hear Mai's version of ALIVE.

Yeah, I would love for the rivals from Dearly Stars to be producable and maybe some Cinderella Girls.

Judging by how Million Live was received, I think for there to be new idols they'd need to "earn" their way into 765. For instance 876 and Project Fairy were well received because they were spinoffs/rivals at first. I guess...

I really want all the DS idols to either join the mian cast or get their own game, including cinera and yumeko. all this talent is just going to waste over here. Also, more than one outfit at a time. C'mon scamco I know it's possible.

1) It would be amazing if the 876 cast came back for a new game, especially if a quintet could be made with Ai, Eri, Ryo, Yumeko, and Cineria. I'd buy the game just for 876PRO alone...
2) I wouldn't mind Jupiter being produced actually... It'd be really fun to put them and Ryo onstage together. Maybe Makoto too... Doubt it'll happen though...
3) Both old and new default costumes. CUTE, COSMIC and COOL were really great, but we never saw Takane's or Hibiki's in game. STARRY, COSMIC and COOL were also sweet, but 876PRO got stuck in their old default costumes.
4) The option for Quartets and Quintets.
5) Past songs in general... (Poor "Matane"...)
6) For idols to wear different costumes onstage.
7) More Ritsuko and Kotori.

Post by: ninjamitsuki on April 02, 2013, 04:35:31 AM
Honestly this might be an unpopular opinion on the subject, but I would like it if Jupiter and "natural" Ryo were to get their own game with some new male idols, and leave the girls to their game.  Ryo wanted to be a male idol popular with girls from the get-go and dammit, I want him to be happy. If in the off chance there is ever  a male/"girl's side" game, I want Ryo to shine as a male idol, not a crossdresser. :) I actually made a tumblr post about the subject of a game like that and speculating how the heck the stats and outfits would work if they were all guys.

And I too want more Kotori. Considering that Hibiki and Takane magically became a part of 765 in 2, there's no thing saying that Kotori can't magically become an idol even if she's a bit old for it. She has a great voice. I would even be happy if Kotori wasn't an idol but had more speaking parts, at least.

Unlikely as it is, I would like Reiko to get a more major role, as I love Yuu Asakawa. The idea of a prequel starring retired idols and older Cinderella Girls does sound intriguing.

Also iM@S 2 moving to PS3 brought up issues with Xbox 360 players, specifically loyalty issues.

so your reasoning behind why you want it on XBox with region lock is because you can play it and the majority of us can't?

Or was that "the fun part is that there are people who will agree with me when I say Xbox 360 and region locking" just a hypothetical answer?

My main gripe with iM@S2 (even though I am still working towards getting that + a console) is that I can't produce Ritsuko :(

(Yes yes, being able to play using her in Shiny Festa help to ease that a little but still...)

Hipster, the weaboos can't read JP anyway

Problem with another 360 release is the loading times, quality, availability of DLC, multiple disk issues....etc.

Source: Owns both. Likes 1 better, but ps3's lack of load times and piggybacking controls is nifty
Which BTW makes it uncomfortable for Japanese people to play on an American ps3 because of this.

and i feel like the PS3 has longer loading times than the XBox. Additionally, the XBox controller is much more comfortable.

But due to (mostly) missing region locking the PS3 still wins.

I can definitely understand being upset about the whole loyalty issues and having to import a console only to have it released region free for another console and with more features later, but having a simultaneous release for all consoles all with the exact same content seems fair to me. But then again Scamco isn't exactly about fairness.

Also I added one more thing to my wishlist on the first post. One of the major flaws of the animation in the game is the lip sync (or lack thereof). It's always bugged me. The lip sync was great in Shiny Festa (especially in Yakusoku), hopefully iM@S 3 will have lip sync that's just as good if not better.
Title: Re: Things you want in a future installment

Eh, I don't get the loyalty thing. You're talking about a niche series on the absolute most niche system in Japan which sells like hot garbage. It's practically suicide to be dedicated to it. iM@S did well, but clearly not well enough to sustain itself on just that system. If Namco felt like they needed to move it to keep the series successful, then the alternative was likely for the series to stop existing, at least as a console brand.

Additionally, the XBox controller is much more comfortable.

See, I've always like Dualshocks the best. I've never liked any of the Xbox controllers (for a number of reasons I won't get into because it would take too long).

Okay, yeah I enjoyed Im@s2, but there are parts of it that just kinda... I dunno.

I mean, how many new songs did we get? Like... four? Maybe five or six if you hopped on the PS3 wagon? Something's gotta be done about this - even Im@s SP, a remake, got an extra song per idol and a new production song. Is it really too much to ask a full blown sequel to get the same?

The narrative could've also been a little deeper and not as formulaic, I think... and despite thinking about it, I've never been able to find any technical justification for why they excluded four idols from the main game. I mean, the only reason I can think of is that it didn't fit the plotline 'cause they wanted someone to fall... in which case I have to suggest to them: CHANGE THE PLOTLINE. Bonus points if they do that for each character.

... Either way, whatever comes next, comes next. Namco can hit me with an entirely new cast for Im@s3 and I'd be fine with it. Or, at least I think I will.
Title: Re: Things you want in a future installment
Post by: ninjamitsuki on April 04, 2013, 05:42:45 AM
The reason why they had to exclude Iori and Azusa were because their seiyuus were booked and couldn't do most of the recordings. And doing two separate routes for both Ami and Mami would be expensive.

I still don't know why they left out Ritsuko, though.

And I would actually love an entirely new cast even if that's an unpopular opinion. I love all of our current idols but the idea of all brand new characters in a main installment sounds incredibly exciting. Hopefully there could be a way to have a new cast with the main series gameplay as well as keeping the old idols. Perhaps different "versions"?

THIS. But then again, given her backstory of wanting to be a manager/producer rather than a full-fledged idol, combined with Azusa and Iori's unavailability of sorts, NBGI must have seen this as a good chance of turning her into a producer and making RK...

Definitely want more in the gameplay department.

A music rhythm game during performances (NOT the simple beat focused crap in im@s2) would really help and allow us to actually produce the songs we want, not just the fastest ones.

I REALLY want to see more from the actual producing side of things from this series. Let me actually manage the idol's careers and be more involved. Deciding what kinds of jobs they take and how much of their career they dedicate into a certain field such as seiyuu work or movie acting, scheduling fan meets to keep their popularity up and getting to customize stages and arenas for performances. Im@s could have a really cool sim aspect to it if they focused on it.

Those are 2 entirely different things. They could simply divide all scoring stuff (including combo bonus and multiplier decay rate) with the number of beats a song has, maybe multiply the base score by 200 or so and the problem would basically be solved. Yes there are still some issues concerning bursts, but if you think a bit about it i'm sure this can be solved as well, and even if not, the issue would only be minor and only affect festivals.

But yes, some more involvement during the song would be nice.

I think the problem here is two conflicting interests that Namco cannot make coexist.
Either we get a really good rhythm game pssh yeah right it's Namco Bandai we're talking about  or a really good sim game.

It doesn't have to be a full blown rhythm game like SF, but could definitely be a little more involving than what we got in 2.

Came up with another idea:

Remasters of the arcade songs!

I would love for all of the arcade songs to come back, provided that they are remastered. The seiyuu have improved tremendously since the arcade version, and the quality of the songs has improved, too. The arcade songs sound flat and synthetic compared to newer songs, but are still great songs. It would be nice to have the original arcade songs have a bit of a makeover. Re-recorded, and with better sounding instruments.

Yes, I want supports for the idols! And marriage at S ranks have them raise or lower stats like training does, depending on the level of relationship achieved between the idols.

I had a weird idea that probably is not even the job of a producer but someone else entirely...

I kind of want to be in charge of marketing the idols, or have a marketing feature. And also being in complete control of your schedule. Basically complete control over what kind of promotions you do (said promotions will still have the usual communication event) and what you will put in your schedule each week instead of choosing presets. Who do you want your fans to be? What kind of promotions will you hold? Will your idols guest star in TV, and if so, what kind of shows? What kind of products will your unit endorse? How can you convince the public your unit is worth their attention? What is the selling point of each idol? And what kinda merchandise will you be selling?

You can maybe make your own commercials for product endorsements and upcoming events and singles. The endorsements will have certain presets and each idol will do each preset differently. When you advertise events or upcoming singles, you can use clips of music videos and put together a video. You could also use the g4u mode to make print ads and of course, gravure.

And your marketing could affect the idols as well as the general public. Haruka might love the handshake events you planned, but is Chihaya getting enough singing in her career? And marketing Makoto to girls might rake in the dough, but is Makoto truly happy with that decision? Of course money would have to be more important than in 2 for this to matter.

And maybe with free schedule control, could come multitasking. Miki and Hibiki could tackle a duet live while Takane stars in a toothpaste commercial (of course there would be ridiculous/funny options like that) in the same week.

But of course, marketing could be completely optional and you could just leave the marketing and planning up to the marketing people and have them choose for you (giving you a choice of presets like previous games), or you could choose to change the marketing and event planning yourself at any time. We already have complete control over the music videos, it would be awesome to have complete control over the other aspects of the idol business.
Title: Re: Things you want in a future installment

I've always kinda wanted a "Music Video" event to be in the game. I don't know how it would work, though; would every song have a preset video, with the actions of the "story" segments of the video determined by unit placement? Or would the actions be idol-specific? I'll use Little Match Girl as an example of what I mean...

Placement route:
Little Match Girl might start with Leader walking on a snowy street, clutching her hand to her chest as if protecting something. Cut to Second shivering next to a make-shift fire. Cut to Third looking at the lit match she's holding as she leans against a building. Then you cut to the dance segment once the main vocals start.

Character route:
Haruka will be seen walking down the snowy street from above, but the place at which that cut happens changes depending on her placement. Meanwhile, Yukiho might be kneeling against a wall, trying to sell matches to the passersby. Then you might cut to Hibiki staring in a warm window, followed by a close-up on her breath, then cut to dance. If Haruka is leader, hers will play first of the three, then follow the order.

Alternatively (Character Route B, I guess) there'd be a priority system or something, so that, whenever Yukiho is in the group, her match-selling segment will always be played when they mention the eponymous Little Match Girl. (Not sure that would work given the timing of the backing vocals for that song, but work with me.) Then, they might have so-and-so many others who'd have lesser priority for that specific spot. It'd be complicated, though, so I'm not sure it'd be doable.

Also alternatively (Character C, apparently) the player would be able to pick the order of the "story" segments, and how long they run, a la the lyric choosing in L4U!.

On that note, the choosing of lyrics should return for the next game. Some dances might be weirder, but a lot of them are seriously Leader-biased, and I like my units to be more than Leader-and-backup-dancers. (Also would let you balance out for quintets.)

From what I recall, SP had a few crossover costumes as well:

Xiaoyu (Tekken)
Estelle (Tales of Vesperia)
Anise (Tales of the Abyss)
Then there were the numerous Taiko no Tatsujin accessories shown throughout the series

Here are some of my personal ideas:

Bring back Wonder Momo?
Xiaomu (Namco x Capcom) Heck, maybe even pack it with Subarashiki Shin Sekai as a new song?
Colette (Tales of Symphonia) Imagine singing angels...
Lily or Nina (Tekken)
Taki, Sophitia, or Cassandra (Soulcalibur) Maybe even Ivy? I can see Takane wearing her outfit...rrrrow!
KOS-MOS or MOMO (Xenosaga)
A full-blown valkyrie outfit (Valkyrie no Densetsu)? Remember it was one of Cassandra's alternate outfits in Soulcalibur 2.
Pascal or Sophie (Tales of Graces)
Maybe even Milla (Tales of Xillia)? I can see Miki wearing her outfit.

Then again, my imagination could just be going wild, but, hey, it's possible.

Oh, I got one!

An edit mode/PV maker/dance creation tool! You can choose from a bunch of moves and put in your mp3s and make your own PV with your custom music. Cuz I was trying to make my first M@D and I realized how difficult the whole process is...

Ritsuko doesn't get nearly enough love. My biggest hope for the games on the whole is that she returns as an idol! I want so desperately to make my dream team of Ritsuko, Azusa, and Takane into a real idol unit!

/isn't sure if there's anti-necro rules in place so apologies in advance if there were...

A few things I'd probably want to see in future installments, myself (besides the L4U ability to change lyric order), would be...
- Ability to change hairstyles if the character has alternate styles... which many characters seem to now, esp. when you include Vivid Bikini's changes for the DLC. Granted, not every character can take advantage of this too well... but I think the only ones who probably would get NO POSSIBLE ALTERNATE VARIATIONS WHATSOEVER would be Haruka/Yuhiho and maybe Hibiki (unless you count barette removals for Haruka). I'll admit for some characters (hi Mami, hi Makoto - basically characters with grown-out hairstyles) this may run into some issues though.
- Colorful Days to become the 12-color version, to accommodate Takane and Hibiki's additions into the main cast (I know full well this one is not happening because it would be cost-ineffective in general - they'd need to rerecord for 9 idols AND have to make animation changes, and what if more idols get added to the main 765 roster?! - it's just me being more than a tad nitpicky)
- English subtitling options - NOT A FULL-BLOWN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE RELEASE, MIND! (I personally would not want one, especially not if we're to have a repeat of Shiny Festa as a result. I don't own iProducts to begin with, so the release was completely useless to me...) Just, I have noticed that there are some Japanese games providing subtitle options in other languages as of late. (Granted, they're typically from series that already have large overseas franchises to begin with, but...) I think this would be a suitable compromise - even if the quality isn't too great, so long as it can be understood. Besides those hoobies, I didn't notice any GLARING issues from the translations of Shiny Festa that I have seen, and I (personally) don't mind not having the song subtitles translated too much.

EDIT: Also for Takane to have an ACTUAL IMAGE SONG of hers to be playable in the main series, because as far as I can recall she is the only one who does not. (I'd say Hibiki too, but because Brand New Day... and yes, I know she gets Kazahana in the Shiny spinoffs, but that's why I said "main series") I personally can see Flower Girl being a really cute song to have for a majority of the idols. (Especially Makoto. >>; I'm sorry, I can REALLY see her being a fan of this one)
...though if the scoring systems stay as dull for slow songs as they were in iM@S2, that would be of no use x.x
