Title: The Pokemon Thread.
Post by: Virgofall on November 21, 2014, 10:52:58 AM
Given that Pokemon's an insanely popular series in its own right, I've seen numerous people mention it and we don't have a thread (far as I can tell), I figured I'd make one, especially considering that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have just came out today (well, where I live anyway). I'll be picking mine up later since no midnight launch for this run...

But yeah, Pokemon discussion thread.

I've not much to say yet for ORAS, mostly because I don't yet have my game, but I'll be getting Omega Ruby (and I played X prior). I really hope that the new Megastones are all attainable in just one version like Serebii's saying so far though. Split-versions sucked for that.

Speaking from a casual, nostalgic, competitive-ignoramus standpoint, I mostly stopped heeding Pokemon once they deviated so much past the third Generaton -- currently quite the clusterfuck they'e got going, I feel. :P

Nevertheless, I'd be completely open to a Pokemon Stadium 3. Now that would be a dandy conversion~.

I'll be getting my copy of Alpha Sapphire later today. I've been a fan of the Pokemon games since I was around 4 or so and played almost every Pokemon game including the side games like the explorers games, ranger games, colloseum+XD, Stadium games, Snap, hey you! Pikachu+Pokemon Channel, etc. (the only pokemon games I haven't played are Puzzle League, the new trozei, and the new art "game" if you can call it that)

X & Y was imo the best Pokemon game so far; before it my favorite Pokemon game was Platinum, but now X is definitely my favorite. So I'm hoping they did well with Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby as well.

I haven't been spoiled on the game anymore than whats been shown in corocoro, trailers, and the demo. My boyfriend got his copy last night but we made a deal that we would each play until beating the first gym and then stop without saving so that when we both have the game we can play it together from the start in a way. So I probably won't be going past the first gym until 9 PM or later tonight so me and him can play together.

For those planning to go on the Battle Spot or battle online in general on ORAS, keep in mind that you can use both the Primals and Mega Rayquaza in battle at the same time, so be wary.

Got the game and played it for a while (didn't even make it to the first gym you can actually battle at, though). This sure is reminding me why I was never a huge fan of gen 3 in the first place. The start is agonizingly slow and it just gets boring in all honestly (not to mention the starters are pretty crap)

On the bright side, though, I can say that the remake is well done, from what I've seen so far. I especially enjoy the tiny touches like bending over to talk to pokemon/child npcs and being able to turn your head side to side while sitting. Game looks really nice, walking feels super smooth. Battles still lag with the 3D on a bit but it seems better than it was during the demo (a bit better, anyway.)

The Pokenav is really awesome, its great how it shows you what pokemon you've caught in an area and what pokemon you have yet to catch. I also like being able to sneak up on pokemon, especially since said pokemon you sneak up on can sometimes carry a good item or have a special move. Still haven't gotten to contests yet (obviously) so not sure how those are.

There's multiple reasons for me, but I can honestly say I enjoy the games more now that they're more integrated with internet use. As a child who had almost no friends and only her brother for trading, it's a much different playing experience being able to interact with others online and play with them despite distance, plus I have a different view on how I play games now than I have then.

III was my favorite, but it's mostly because of some of the other aspects brought in (and the fact my favorite Pokemon, Gardevoir, was introduced in it).
I agree on the game going slow, though I think a part of it is due to the 2D>3D transition. Sure, it all looks nicer, but since each character has a model and expressions now, instead of just a sprite, it takes much more time to go through the dialogue/cutscenes. Pretty good so far otherwise. I've only gotten to second town, though.

My character in OR is a guy named Ryo. Started with Mudkip. My character in AS is a girl named Yuri. Started with Torchic.

Yeah, I practice the Kyokugen style of Pokémon training this time around.

Since Generation III was my favorite, I'll get Alpha Sapphire. I think I can say that it's for nostalgic reasons. Dunno if I use an original team or "Touhou based" team though.

Finally got further into the game, made it to slateport and participated in a contest. Used my Skitty named Mia (after my irl cat). I LOVE the idol character. The contest was fun, but I somehow still feel let down. It honestly doesn't feel that improved aside from the fact that its 3D. Then again I guess thats all it was supposed to be in the first place. Got the cosplay Pikachu, but haven't tried it out yet.

I gotta say after beating the second gym the game definitely picked up for me, felt a lot more fun. My team right now is A Grovyle called Trovato (after my boyfriends online handle), Skitty named Mia which I mentioned already, Zigzagoon named Luna, Dustox named Daphne, and Wingull named Penny.

Never mentioned it before because I didn't see it as important, but since other people are saying their player character's name and gender I'm playing as May and named her Aku.

Anyway, in short, contests kinda disappointed me, but the idol character made up for it a bit and overall I'm enjoying the game more than I was at first.

I'm honestly glad that it's that way myself, but that's because I really loved the contest system in III as it was. I didn't like how IV/Sinnoh handled their contests.
I miss the Pokeblock blender system, though; that was fun.

My IGN is Virgofall in OR, Leorise in X - male/female respectively.

Finished the E4 last night. Team was Sceptile, Gyarados, Skitty, Pelliper, Mightyena and Machoke; I was pretty much rushing down the game as fast I could and I don't think I would've been able to beat Steven if not for Intimidates (Gyarados/Mightyena) and Charm (Skitty) nulling any decent form of attack on his Metagross.
Some other musings from my experience, though not in any particular order (unless spoiler-related):
- The Super-Secret Base system's cool so far. Being able to heal your pokes if you have a bed in there is really nice, too.
- Getting the version Lati was REALLY abrupt. Almost too abrupt, in my opinion. Better than roaming, but still...
- I can't tell if Nintendo/Game Freak failed a spot check on Wallace's new outfit. I understand fanservice is what's intended, but... what.
- The O-Power guys are really creepy this game. Especially after you get your post-E4 one - 6-guy fusion into Mr. Bonding, GO!

Ahhhh I'm still so far behind. I'm just so slow when I play games T_T I'm still only 3 badges in...Also I agree with you on the pokeblock blender system being removed. I miss it too =< Right now my team is a Lopunny named...Lopunny because I got the Buneary through wonder trade (knew thunder punch, fire punch, and ice punch!) which I really freaked out about since Lopunny is one of my favorite pokemon in general. Still have my Skitty Mia in my team, my Dustox named Daphne, Gloom named Veronica (hoping I find a leaf stone soon), Plusle named Mimi (and my boyfriend is going to give me a minun named mini), and a Pelipper named Penny although she hasn't actually been on my team for a while since I've been keeping Luna my Linoone on my team for HM moves and secret power. Been having a lot of fun with the game and setting up my first secret base was exciting. Anyway, probably gonna be a while before I get to the Elite 4.

Finished the main game and the post-game episode.  Nothing left but messing with secret bases and resetting for shinies.  And this is where I'm starting to notice a lot of flaws, especially with secret bases.

Bases are very cramped
Limit of 5 Secret Pals
Limit of 16 decorative objects
Teams are limited to 3 pokes - this is really awkward for Doubles.  I guess teams of 4 or 6 are too scary for the kids.
Egg hatching ability is too weak - 1 or 2 tries per secret pal that happens to have the egg hatching ability.  Pointless.
Visitors don't see Secret Pals's real teams, apparently- they get default teams
Due to unique base interiors, you can't add a base that shares a location with a base you already have
QR code scanning give me an incorrect error

As for legendary resetting, the ones that spawn in portals in the sky are going to be a hassle - can't save in front of the portal, so I'm forced to endure the mega evolution cutscene every time.

Also, I'm rather distraught about what they did to Looker

As a player who does primarily doubles... ugh. But at least Inverse Battles are offered as an option. Agreed on the last, though. I wonder if it's simply Game Freak's way of saying they're no longer using Looker as a character in the games anymore? Maybe he wasn't popular in Japan?

On a somewhat unrelated note, Pokken Tournament has had more information announced. On one hand it annoys me a little that Pikachu's in it, but then, it's Pikachu we're talking about... I really shouldn't be surprised. Yay Gardevoir (but then, I'm biased). Any thoughts on some of the new information that's came out on it?

Edit: dsgklsjdfmajc *headdesk* Yeah, I just woke up and used the wrong tag... not that it matters since it was quoted later but

Pretty much agreed with Pikachu. I know it's the mascot and it's popular, but I'm getting pretty sick of it. Gardevoir is pretty much expected considering its "popularity", but I didn't see Suicune coming. Also, where's Blaziken?

EDIT: Oh yeah, here's an useful spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mCkE1o_z3C3RrJBRSYcmMuGFMWUePgLdIcBJ-_XkpjQ/edit?pli=1#gid=0) if you want to SR for Legendary Pokemon.

Considering it was shown alongside Lucario in that teaser picture a long time ago, its safe to say Blaziken will be playable, they just haven't officially announced it yet.

Actually, I guess it's to keep the battle length down; the unprepared will be getting hammered regardless.  I still want 6 vs. 6 AI doubles though.

In the case of Looker, I guess it's a "Han Solo frozen in carbon" thing, putting him aside until he's ready for more development.  This is going to make the wait for the next game extra painful.  I didn't get his Audinite- it was too painful to watch the scene.

In other news, I'm bored and desperate enough to try the Battle Maison again with its stupid long streaks.  I've begun breeding anything and everything that will give me a leg up - in shiny form, of course.

Somehow, I managed to find a group in the city I live. Then, I've been playing with them with different teams. Now, I created a dark team with: Mightyena, Umbreon, Honchkrow, Weavile, Houndoom and, my main, Absol. I know, we have internet and we can play worldwide, but... meeting is even more fun. xD
And I just decided to play the Dragon Competition (Using Latias, Mightyena, Weavile and Absol).

In addition to this, it has been confirmed that during the NicoNico Chokaigi stage show on April 26th at 02:30 UTC/11:30 JST, they will be showing one or more new characters for the game, including ones that were in the recent poll held by Bandai Namco on Twitter" (Serebii).

Ah, good old buddy Gengar. One of my faves =V

Not surprised to see it since it was playable in the fanmade fighting game and the fact that it's very popular. Though I hope that the roster isn't filled with Gen 1 Pokemon.

Trailer here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbqNZ235cBk). Quite spooky and adorable.

And finished the stream. Dat Suicune player wrecking over pokes. Ikeman's crying over his Machamp and his encore was pretty funny. Too bad the rest isn't that interesting.

Relevant. (http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/649634) :P

Gengar's a reasonable choice, what with Pokken needing a bipedal representation of Ghost types. It also helps he's among the most recognized.

Now conversely speaking, bring on more first gens because nostalgia. :3

So, I created a Pokémon Kahoot! for everyone to use and enjoy. It's a 20-question quiz each featuring an Unova Pokémon and they do get harder as you go farther. If you're playing solo, just open the game and put the code on a different tab (https://kahoot.it/#/). As for the rest, well good luck. It's a one-time experience just like any quiz games so do your best. I think 30 seconds is plenty enough. Don't cheat though.

Part 1 (https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/76b280b5-2a85-42c7-b285-f6c6fbc81a88). The 1st part is a basic knowledge quiz so it's pretty lenient with its questions (doesn't stop me from putting tricky ones in so read carefully).

The next part is a Geography themed quiz (settlements and landmarks) featuring Eelektross.

EDIT: Sorry for closing the topic on the Community works, but I moved back here because I feel that the comments there didn't really help.

2nd Part is out. (https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/76b280b5-2a85-42c7-b285-f6c6fbc81a88) Enjoy.

Some VGC stuff...
Players at the German National Championships, running on the 16th & 17th of May 2015, can download a special Pachirisu based on the 2014 World Champion, Sejun Park's Pachirisu, which he used to help claim victory in the World Championships last year. Check out Sejun's report on Nugget Bridge (http://nuggetbridge.com/reports/follow-2014-pokemon-world-champion-team-report/).

Why is this thread empty?

BTW, I've been playing rating battle (double and triple battle). People really love using Landorus. xD

Pokkén Tournament is coming out this summer in Japan. Looking really forward to it.
People love using Landorus (especially in Therian Forme) because of Intimidate and high attack lol. To make up its lowered speed, people typically equipped it with Choice Scarf. Speaking of Rating battles, how do you fared with other common mons like Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Salamence, Amoonguss, Bisharp, etc?

Also, this vine is brilliant in an amazing way. (https://vine.co/v/ebn0lpgqHvb)

I see. I'm kinda like fighting games, so I think I can expect a good thing. xD

About the rating battles, the maximum of points I could get was just 16XX, so I'm not much to trust strategically. I was using a team composed of: Latias, Loppuny, Rhyperior, Clefable, Mienshao and Arcanine (although I'm still deciding between Rhyperior or explosion Metagross). Against Landorus or Salamence, I just use Ice Beam with Latias. Against Kangaskhan or Bisharp, direct attack with Mienshao. Against Amoongus, I didn't have a definitive plan since just a psychic with Latias or Metagross zen headbutt can't take that down by OHKO. Though in case of some problems, I use a "trickster Clefable" (minimize + Follow me) to make my other attack. But the one I usually have more problem is Aegislash, since it have high attack and resistance (and one of the reasons to put Loppuny in my team). Oh, and there's "hyper voicer" Sylveon too. I case of that, Mienshao can defend with Wide Guard or take down with Poison Jab (if it have at least some damage though).
But anyway, people really play well.

... Oh, that pic... xD

Gonna help kickstart this thread.

Here's an old scyther in-joke (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOFUwqtwNHQ)

And which Pokemon do you think each idol most represent?

My list(my Pokemon knowledge is limited to mostly the 1st 3 gen, so there might be better ones out there):
Couldn't decide for a few of them so I just put them both down.

Haruka - Chansey/Wigglytuff
Chihaya- Lucario/Altaria
Miki - Bayleef
Yukiho - Ralts
Makoto - Golduck
Iori - Teddiursa/Jigglypuff
Yayoi - Meowth
Ami/Mami - Minun/Plusle
Azusa - Milotic/Jynx
Ritsuko - Metagross
Hibiki - Buizel
Takane - Lunatone

Feel free to add more girls from the other agencies as well.

Chihaya - Latios (or some other blue Pokémon)
Miki - Snorlax, Slaking or Galvantula
Hibiki - Pikachu
Takane - Clefable, Lunatone, Cresselia or some lunatic (not Loppuny though).

Ooh, Pikachu is nice choice for Hibiki!(Why didn't I think of that?!  Spent ages racking my brain before just settling on Buizel lol)  Would also suit Haruka as well since both are iconic to the series.  Hmmm, I'd originally thought Latios/Latias for Ami/Mami instead, but I could see it working for Haruka too!(Only if Chihaya is Latios also though  8))  Also forgot about Clefable. XD

Totally wanting Jynx just to see the colossal upset and then some.

Haha!  I think she'd be pretty fun.  They'd prolly give her all these cheap stuns and status effects with lovely kiss, lick, blizzard and whatnot so you can proceed to slap the hell outta all 'em. XD

Kinda hoping they don't bring in Jiggly(just cause Pikachu is in or just to add another small-fry in there).

Using a Max Revive on this thread! XD

Found this Pokemon dating quiz thing that pairs you up with the character from the series that you are most compatible with.  There's both guy and girl versions.

(might take a while to load)

I got Jessie. x. x  Tried the guy ver. also and got Nando(guy with harp).  I was being so honest too with my choices rofl.
Haha, turns out none of the best girls that I wanted were even possible options to begin with. (though Misty would've been okay XD)

If I could choose, would've been:

(player ||  leader  || npc trainer)

Hilda or Leaf ||  Erika  || X/Y's Ace Trainer (http://41.media.tumblr.com/0eceb2a65635cba210590ce402d9734a/tumblr_ncvzzpB7521rwvdy0o1_1280.png)(sexy, blonde, badass, gawddamm XD)

Got Jesse and Ash. Definitely inspired by the anime looking at the options.

Pokemon Picross is coming out next week. I'm kinda annoyed that it's another freemium game but it's something I rather play over Shuffle and Rumble.

There's some Pokemon Picross puzzles on the internet. Just google image "Pokemon Picross" and you'll find it.

Sony and Warner Bros are currently waged in a bidding war over the film rights to Pokemon. (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/pokemon-movie-rights-bidding-war-884207)

Which essentially means we'll have a big-budget, live-action Pokemon movie in a few years.

Probably directed with Zack Snyder's grittiness and a Jared Leto cameo. Hold me, someone.

I've been seriously considering getting back into the series this gen.(all this sun/moon hype got to me lol)  Idk, we'll see.  So what you guys think of those new starters?  Tbh I was a bit underwhelmed by the designs, but they've grown on me a bit.

Rowlett is cute and all, but I really don't like the typing.  Litten is cute too with that deadpan expression, but I think I'm liking Popplio the most.(cuz I'm a biased water-type fan XD)  He also seems like the underdog this gen.  I'm a little disappointed we got another sea lion tho! -.-  No dolphin why?!  People are speculating he might turn out a water/fairy type clown seal.  I'm hoping for water/psychic.  Either would be great.

Someone drew what they thought the final evolutions of all 3 starters might look like. (http://9gag.com/gag/ao978Y2?ref=mobile.s.cp)  I hope they at least look this good, or better.
Title: Re: The Pokemon Thread.
Post by: ChocoCats on May 12, 2016, 07:10:52 AM
The starters are pretty cute. Rowlet is the popular one and I can see why, but the typing sucks. I know it's a barn owl, but that doesn't stop the grass/flying typing combination from sucking unless you're Shaymin-Sky (though at least you don't need to get a birdmon on your team to teach Fly with so that's that). Litten is my least favorite out of the three but otherwise I'm alright with it. So that leaves Popplio as my favorite of three. I guess it's because water-types are my favorite type and the water starters tend to have designs I liked over the rest.

I can't say much about the legendary mascots though. They're growing to me, but they didn't leave much of an impression as Xerneas and Yveltal did when they're first revealed. I'm tending to lead towards the Lion over the Moon Zubat thing. I hope that the new legends don't reach the Reshiram/Zekrom level of suckage movepool-wise.
Title: Re: The Pokemon Thread.
Post by: Yui on May 12, 2016, 07:05:49 PM
First at all, Pokémon XY and ORAS users... Shiny Xerneas available on mystery gift (day 11 ~ 17). And Shiny Yveltay (*cough cough* bacon) will be available on may 20 ~ 26.

By the way, I already got Volcanion on GTS, completing 721 Pokémons, got 1000 secret base flags, finished the contests and defeated Lucia, got all TMs, finished all Battle Maison modes. I think I can say I finished that game and I can go to the next.
I passed the entire generation 6 using Touhou based team (OK, I created a full lunatic team, Chihaya's blue team and stuffs, but anyway). I think I'll play the next game with an original one full generation 7 then.

*see the trailer and a fire cat as one of the starters Pokémon*

"Oh, Rin Kaenbyou..."

I've been seriously considering getting back into the series this gen.(all this sun/moon hype got to me lol)  Idk, we'll see.  So what you guys think of those new starters?  Tbh I was a bit underwhelmed by the designs, but they've grown on me a bit.

Rowlet = Kotori
Litten = Orin
Popplio = no reference yet

Joking aside, I'll go with Litten. That look like it'll end up in darkness or ghost (I hope)...

Sort of glad it comes out in November though, that way my savings can recuperate from the beating they'll take next month, haha...
Also, the Japanese trailer has all the feels, js.
Title: Re: The Pokemon Thread.
Post by: Nayre on May 13, 2016, 09:39:06 AM
@ChocoCats  Yes, yes! Agreed.  I think I'd like Litten more if it actually looked more cuddly and kitten-like as in the fanarts. (http://0.media.dorkly.cvcdn.com/37/96/141b58c3bb99c2ad12b28787a33f318e.jpg)(adorable XD)

So I'm thinking stats-wise, Popplio is almost definitely going to be the speediest of the bunch cuz of it's acrobatic traits. I'm actually counting on it since we've had only 1/6 of the water starters so far actually make it over 100 base spd lol.(even grass has had at least 2!)  Other stats: high special atk, low physical, average hp and defenses.  Maybe it'll get some kind of new unique ability like a water version of sand veil or something.  Rowlet might be the most physically offensive.  Litten's prolly gonna end up the slowest and defensive one, especially if the second typing ends up dark.

Rowlet...oh man, I've seen so much fanart recently of Rowlet and Kotori (Love Live) it's crazy!
I think Rowlet became the first starter Pokémon in six generations to begin with two types...after Bulbasaur.

As for Popplio, if I start with it, I plan to name it Jonathan after the seal in Kaleido Star.

I guess Litten is supposed to pick up the Ground-type at some point when it evolves?

I sure hope it'll be the bulkiest of the three to make up for it not even resisting Grass any more on top of the four times weakness to Water, if it does turn part Ground.

While a bit unrelated (but still about Pokemon), after long last I've managed to finish putting down everything pertaining to my sequels to Pokémon Infinite and Zero, Pokémon Vari-Infi and Vari-Zero. Now to prevent a repeat of what happened almost two years ago with posting my Pokémon Infinite and Zero ideas, I'll instead just post a link to where you can find Pokémon Vari-Infi and Pokemon Vari-Zero (http://sunflorazumarill.deviantart.com/gallery/46665089/Pokemon-Infinite-Zero). Now they're not the best thing out there and I even think they may suffer from sequel stagnation, but I did what I wanted to do. You can either check them out for yourself or just ignore them. Your choice. I just hope they're not considered awful to you.

I picked up Ruby again cuz I thought I read somewhere that you can skill swap Wonder Guard in R/S.  So I leveled up a Nincada and Abra to try it out.  It doesn't work... B-But imagine how OP a Sableye with Wonder Guard(in 3rd gen) would be!!

I also tried doing battle tower for that 100 wins, but I lost around 75ish to a cheap, tanky double team/recover Milotic. -.-

That typing on Lunala is pretty cool tho, only 2 weaknesses and even tho both of them are x4, its ability protects it from a OHKO.

I'd totes be all for a dark type chuuni goth lolita gym leader, but I just want a dark type gym in this game since it's the only type without one. I'm also having a hard time deciding which starter to get, I want Rowlet so I don't have to worry about catching a flier but also Litten because cats.
I think until the games come out I'll just shiny hunt, wonder trade, and maybe actually start training some more competitive Pokemon like I told myself I'll do.

Gamefreak, why you throw these curveballs. I guess we'll have to the pick the game our favorite legendary isn't in so they don't suffer under our care.

I hope they introduce a new Psychic-Ice type because hypothetically it's my favorite type pairing, but I'm not sure if it actually is, as Jynx is the only Pokemon with that typing and I haven't ever tried one because bleh. I know it'd likely be super fragile, but I prefer wallbreakers anyway. I definitely hope they'll give us a new Jynx, even if I'm the only person in the world that wants it. I wanted them to add one in fifth and sixth gen as well, but obviously that didn't happen. :/

Don't play Pokémon Go in the streets. You can get hit by a truck and accident itself.

That game is having lots of bizarre news lately. xD

Well, so much was announced for this new generation. New Pokémons, Z-Moves, the demo and stuffs. I think I already decided my team.
BTW, Cynthia, Wally, Red and Blue are in this game. My... that design for Red and Blue... nice one.

Since Sun and Moon are out now, is anyone playing them? I decided to preload mine so I wouldn't have to wait in any lines or for shipments (plus the bonus of playing it at 10 PM). I'm really enjoying it thus far, the trials are a good change from the usual gyms even though Totem Pokemon can be a pain to defeat. Lilie is really cute too. Oh, and I got Sun and picked Rowlett as my starter.

I've started up a new set of Pokémon ideas called Pokémon Frost and Flame. To make things easier, I'll just post a link to where you can find them. I still have a long way to go, however.

Well, got the Lunatic Moon version, and finished the main story and completed the Pokedex.
Now, just grind the team to LVL 100 and play the Battle Tree. By the way, that game kinda look like the Gamecube games (Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD).

... I was trying to forget about Touhou in this generation. And there's even Celesteela to remind me of Kaguya. xD

My... that Toxapex is really a Royal Guard indeed. As for the bonus video... damn... talk about patience. xD
Anyway, I'm about to start the Super Battle modes too.
