Places to upload large files
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:42:25 PM »
I figured that a thread (and maybe a sticky) would be a good idea in this subforum (injury aside, I know. I don't do myself any favours) concerning places to upload various places to transport very large files.

In this forum's case, it is large file versions of requests (500MB+) to be given for various MAD and other special requests.

At this point - Megaupload is no longer a valid destination, due to a very recent arrest by the FBI.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16642369

If you have suggestions to move 300-500MB files, please let me know, so we can provide further support to people requesting and compile a list. Thank you.

Edit: A list will be posted below to explain what HAS happened...

Megaupload – Closed

Fileserve – Stopped filesharing. You can only download your own files. Deleting multiple files. Banning Premium accounts. Closed Affiliate Program.

Filesonic – Stopped filesharing. You can only download your own files. Closed Affiliate Program. Changed server location Jan 22, 2012. Taken down it's Facebook page Now using Digital fingerprinting. Files are being deleted as soon as uploaded (as Hotfile did).

VideoBB – Closed Affiliate Program.

Filepost – Started suspending accounts with infringing material (as Hotfile did)

Uploaded.to – Blocked U.S. access.

Videozer – Closed Affiliate Program.

Filejungle – Owned by Fileserve (same as above). Testing USA IP addresses blocking.

Uploadstation – Owned by Fileserve (same as above). Testing USA IP addresses blocking.

4Shared – Deleting multiple files

EnterUpload - Down (Redirect)

This probably beats the point in asking for uploading sites that can handle large filesizes, but can't we just put it in zip files and cut them into parts (e.g. WinZip can cut any file/s you compress by a certain amount maximum)? May get tedious to the downloader, but it seems a good idea.

That's strange -- I can access Fileserve just fine (although they cut the affiliate program without notice).

Edit: Nevermind; You can only access the files uploaded to your own account.

Now that I thought about it for a while; Dropbox might be a good alternative. The only major problem with the site is the lack of storage space: A piddling 2GB, with another 250MB added (up to a maximum of 8GB free storage) per referral. PM me if you want to help expand my storage (My fileserve account holds about 5GB just in im@s videos!)

Just some tests: Overmaster (Project Fairy)
Nanairo Botan (Project Fairy)
Overmaster (Chihaya, Miki, Takane)

Well, Skydrive also works - I did a private request earlier - It is possible to do a public listing, and at 25GB, it makes it easier to work with.

I'm more or less out of  requesting filling though. My mother tore my muscles in my right hand, so I can't hold a PS3 controller at all.

As well, I will attach a incomplete list from reddit about the status of the uploaders.

The only problem about Skydrive is the 100MB size limit.

Oh yeah, I didn't mention this on my last post here, but why not MediaFire?

rapidshare.com might also be something
as i'v seen there is no limit to the file size. the drawback for a free user is that a file is deleted after 30 days if i understand that correctly. If it's just about giving someone a video file for mad requests that should work, if you want to keep the file available it probably isn't a good solution.

A second list updating, curtesy of some contacts. Unconfirmed as of yet but...

- MegaUpload - Closed.
- FileServe - Closed. Does not sell premium.
- FileJungle - Deleting files. Locked in the U.S..
- UploadStation - Deleting accounts. Locked in US.
- FileSonic - the news is arbitrary (under FBI investigation).
- Uploading.com - Deleting accounts.
- VideoBB - Closed! would disappear soon.
- Uploaded - Banned U.S. and the FBI went after the owners who are gone.
- FilePost - Deleting all material (so will leave executables, pdfs, txts)
- Videoz - closed and locked in the countries affiliated with the USA.
- 4shared - Deleting files with copyright and waits in line at the FBI.
- MediaFire - Called to testify in the next 90 days and it will open doors pro FBI
- Org torrent - could vanish with everything within 30 days "he is under criminal investigation"
- Network Share mIRC - awaiting the decision of the case to continue or terminate Torrente everything.
- Koshiki - operating 100% Japan will not join the SOUP / PIPA
- Shienko Box - 100% working china / korea will not join the SOUP / PIPA
- ShareX BR - group UOL / BOL / iG say they will join the SOUP / PIPA

Forgive the spelling errors, this is hot off the presses, and I am still conducting further investigations.

Some of the contacts are geared towards other reasons, so are focused on other things, but some of the things we need are in these reports, so I'll continue to keep an ear out.

It looks like though that we're seeing a full court press, with Megaupload being a leading shot on a much bigger sweep. It's not exactly new either - this is a year and a half to two years in the making.

http://bayfiles.com/ ?

It'll fit on the lower end (500MB max per file, unless you have a premium account) and it seems like it'll be on the short list.

Oh yeah, I didn't mention this on my last post here, but why not MediaFire?

Mediafire has a 200MB per file limit, which it enforces (arbituarily) at +/-10MB which can prove problematic.

The associated problem is this - due to the nature of said requests, it's not uncommon to have to transport 10+ full recordings at once, and you can tell how hard this can get. For transport purposes, it's a much better idea to not split a file into 2.

Then again, Mediafire may be subject to a sweep later on. I will have to keep an eye on a few things at my end.
